Born January 25, 1923, in Clay Center, Kansas, Wayne was the 2nd of five children blessed to the union of Emery Clarence and Kate Elizabeth (nee Lyne) Alquist.
The 6', 155 lb, brown-eyed black-haired 19-year-old registered for the draft on June 30, 1942 in his hometown. On August 5, 1943, he enlisted in the Air Corps at Sheppard Field in Witchita Falls, Texas. CPL Alquist was with the 332nd Squadron, 513th Troop Carrier Group when he perished.
