FRIONA — Billy Dean Baxter, 89, of Friona died Saturday, Feb. 20, 2016.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church in Friona with the Rev. Brett Hoyle, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Friona Cemetery. Arrangements are by Blackwell-Mullins Funeral Home of Friona.

Billy was born Dec. 18, 1926, in Elk City, Okla., to George William and Ella Eden Baxter. He served as an Army medical technician during World War II. He married Lille Mae Renner on Sept. 7, 1947, in Friona, where he was an accomplished cattle rancher and farmer, and was a past board of directors member of Federal Land Bank and Friona Consumers Co-op. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Friona, where he also taught Sunday school for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, J.W. Baxter and Loren Snyder.

Survivors include his wife, Lillie of Friona; two sons, John Michael Baxter and wife Cathy of Saguache, Colo., and Blayne Dee Baxter and wife Glenda of Syracuse, Kan.; a daughter, Debra Elaine Baxter of Amarillo; two sisters, Sue Null and husband Bill of Roscoe, Ill., and Ann Carmichael of Timber Lake, S.D.; a grandson, Bryan Dean Baxter of Wichita, Kan., three stepgrandchildren of Henderson, Nev.; and a stepgrandson of Santa Fe, N.M.

The family suggests memorials be to Friona Library, 109 W. Seventh St., Friona, TX 79035 or Friona Sr. Citizens, P.O. Box 614, Friona, TX 79035.
