Leo LaVern Benson, 81, Prairie du Chien, WI, formerly of Elkader, died Tuesday, September 19, 2006, at Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital, Prairie du Chien, WI, following a long illness. He was born November 11, 1924, in Highland Township, to Bert and Pauline (Fishel) Benson. Leo graduated from Elkader High School.
He was united in marriage to Florence Ogle. Three children were born to this union. They later divorced. He married Buelah Dunlap and she died in March 8, 2002.
Leo farmed for many years, was an antique dealer and in later years, he was a Florida Keys commercial fisherman. He loved spending time with his family and friends and his faithful dog, Sparky.
Survivors include his companion, Margie Goblet, Marathon, FL, three children, Diane Benson, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Tom Benson, McGregor, Mark (Mona) Benson, Elgin; three step-children, Tony (Lucy) Dunlap, Fountain, CO, Roger (Carrie) Dunlap, Decorah, Mona (David) Schultz, Luana; seventeen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Buelah and one sister, Ernestine Allen
