Gerald Walter Vetter was born December 10, 1925, in Riverton Township in rural Floyd County, IA, the son of Walter and Anna Marie (Litterer) Vetter.
He received his education in rural country school and was a 1943 graduate of the Charles City High School.
He served state-side in the United States Army and was honorably discharged on April 25, 1947.
On February 22, 1948, in Mason City, IA, he married Beulah Groen. To this union six children were born.
The couple farmed west of Nashua for 48 years and Gerald continued to help on the farm with his son Paul. Gerald had also worked for the Charles City ASC office for 17 years.
In his younger days, he was very active playing softball. He loved fishing, dart-ball, playing cards, especially "500" and "Hearts". In his latter year he spent many hours putting puzzles together. He cherished his family and time with them was the most important to Gerald.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Dorothy (Leon) Scott, Edna (Don) Speicher, Elsie (Art) Heitz, Louise (Clarence) Gersema; brother-in-law, Delvin Koeff.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 25, 2016, at St. John United Church of Christ - Pleasant Hill, rural Nashua with Rev. John Cofield presiding. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may greet the family 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2016, at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home - Olson Chapel in Nashua. Visitation continues an hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
