I visited with my Great Uncle Reuben twice. He seemed like a very nice and likable fellow.

The first visit must have been about 1958 or thereabouts. He had come for a visit to Dallas to see his brother, my Grandfather, and brought his family. I only remember his one offspring, Joseph, who had spastic quadriplegia from cerebral palsy. Joe was inside a contraption, that looked somewhat like a "hoop skirt". He was in the middle of it, it had rollers, and it could be dropped down to become stationary. I was completely fascinated. I later learned that my Uncle Reuben had built that device for his son, Joe.

I have no clue why the Hogg family wasn't any closer than they seemed to be. I never attended a family reunion with the Hoggs, and only one with the Owens.

The picture of the large group gathered for my Grandfather's 80th birthday was the occasion of my second visit with Reuben.

That's a shame to me, but unfortunately circumstances have prevented me from having reunions with my family.
