The Hancock Democrat, March 26, 1903 (Obituary courtesy of Mark McCrady)
Another Pioneer Gone
Once more the Death Angel has visited our midst and taken one of our beloved citizens from our midst, in the person of Elkanah Reece, aged 73 years. The deceased resided about five miles southeast of Greenfield, and was one of the oldest and best respected citizens in that part of the county. Mr. Reece was a widower, his helpmate having gone to that land not made by hands, several years ago. He leaves several children and a host of friends and relatives to mourn his untimely death. He was a kind and devoted father and neighbor, always ready to lend a helping hand to those who were in need of assistance, and his memory will ever be kept green by those who knew him. Funeral services were held at Western Grove Church at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning by Rev. J.O. Binford, after which interment took place at Walnut Ridge Cemetery.
