Joyce Meredith (Olsen) Hadley was born on New Year's Eve, December 31, 1919, in Duluth, Minnesota, to Victor Arnold Olson & Clara (Kolbak) Olson. She was the youngest of five daughters. She was preceded to glory by her parents, her husband Leslie Earl Hadley, and by her four sisters; Leone, Dorothy, Irene, & Valentine. She is survived by her three daughters; Judith Ann VanHorn, Kay Lynn (Randy) Heim, & Linda Sue Hadley, 5 grandchildren; Laura Lee (Leon) Pittman, Carol Jean (Curt) Kinman, Laurie, Kimmy, & Jimmy, 7 great grandchildren; Nicole, Randy, Marisol, Carlos, Isabella, Denna, & Mark, 1 great-great granddaughter; Mahlia, many nieces & nephews, other family members & friends, and her granddog Rosco.
Joyce was baptized as an infant in the name of the Triune God at the First Presbyterian Church in Duluth, Minnesota, with Pastor Simpson officiating. Her baptimal sponsor was Leona Dahl. She grew up and went to school in Duluth, Minnesota. Her father was a conductor for the Northern Pacific Railroad. Joyce grduated from Denfeld High School in Duluth. After high school, she performed in shows in Duluth and also took classes to develop her secretarial skills.
Joyce worked as a secretary with Motorola, Concordia Teacher's College, and then with the District 89 School Board of Education in Maywood, Melrose Park, and Broadview from 1962 until her retirement in 1986. She served as the Executive Secretary for Business Accounts Payable. She was the social welcoming chairperson for all new district employees and was an integral part of fundraising efforts with the National Association of Educational Office Professionals (NAEOP).
Joyce met the man in her life, Leslie Earl Hadley, after he called out to her from his convertible. They were married on September 30, 1939, at St Clement's Catholic Church in Duluth, Minnesota, by Father Freeman and blessed by God with 54 years of marriage until Les' death in 1994. They were also grateful for the gift of three daughters; Judith Ann VanHorn, Kay Lynn (Randy) Heim, and Linda Sue Hadley. 5 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, & 1 great-great granddaughter. Joyce was devoted to Les and dearly loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Since 1941, Joyce has made her home in the Chigago area. For many years she lived in Bloomingdale and recently at the Friendship Village in Schaumburg.
Joyce was known as a vibrant, bright, elegant, and independent woman of God. She was a memorable, unique person who was not afraid to express herself. If you met Joyce, you would never forget her. She was a gracious, kind person who trusted others and didn't hold grudges. She was a good listener who was sensitive to people in need and wanted people to get along. Although her life was not always easy, she exhibited courage and strength. She never complained and had a contagious positive attitude. Joyce had a healthy lifestyle and followed a strict exercise regimen. She also knew how to have fun in life and bring a smile into the lives of others. Her hobbies were spending time with family and friends, working out at the local health club, organizing and performing in fashion shows and other entertainment events, writing a book in memory of her sister Dorothy's life, traveling, and enjoying a glass of good wine.

She was instructed in the Lutheran Christian faith as an adult at St Paul Lutheran Church in Grafton, Wisconsin, and confirmed her faith under Pastor Buersdorf in 1951. She was a member of St Paul Lutheran Church in Melrose Park and transferred to Trinity Lutheran Church in Roselle in December 1965. Joyce loved her church and was a regular worshipper at the `11am Sunday worship service. She was actively engaged in her church and participated in a Christ Care small group and as a lector and greeter.

We mourn her death, yet we also rejoice in knowing she was a forgiven child of God who went to heaven throught Christ, and experiences life there with Him and all those who believe in Him.
