Found a John J. Helms b 8/1846 Ga Nc Sc, 1900 Muscogee Co., Ga. district 668, census, pg 213/69 B , Wife Mary J.C. 1/1848.

Rev. J. J. HELMS died at his residence, 102 Williams St. in Girard, Russell County, Alabama, at 9 a.m. on September 14, 1910, after an illness of seven hours with paralysis. He was 65 years old and a Missionary Baptist minister, as well as a Mason and a Confederate veteran. He was survived by eight children: Miss Annie HELMS of Girard; Mrs. John SWEARINTON and Aaron HELMS, of Montgomery; Mose and Hiram HELMS, of Atlanta; Mrs. Lillie Mae HELMS, of New Orleans; Mrs. J. T. MILLER, of Cuthbert, Ga., and John HELMS, of Mexico. The funeral was conducted by Rev. H. T. VAUGHN from the residence on September 16, with interment following at Riverdale Cemetery [ref. Columbus (GA) Enquirer-Sun newspaper, Thursday, Sept. 15, 1910, p. 7 & Sept. 16, p. 5].

He is the son of Garrison & Mahala (ROBINSON) HELMS, who married 28 NOV 1837 in Talbot County, Georgia: Jasper appears in their 1850 census household there.
