John McLachlan Haxton was born in Blairgowrie, Scotland to William Haxton and Betsy Menmuir. He married Helen O'Donnell 6 Feb 1893 at St. Stephen's RC Church in Blairgowrie, Scotland. At the time of the marriage John was residing at High Street, Old Rattray and was a baker and Helen was residing at the Croft in Blairgowrie and was a dressmaker. The witnesses for their marriage were Joanne Haxton (older sister of John) and Michael O'Donnell (older brother of Helen). They were married by Father John Malcolm and they named their first son after him. Together they had 9 children (8 boys and 1 girl) all of the children were born in Scotland. John Haxton sailed from Glasglow, Scotland with 2 of his son's William and Thomas on the Parisian and arrived in Boston Massachusetts on 22 June 1913. They were met in Boston by his brother in law, Thomas O'Donnell and stayed initially at 38 Maple Street, Providence, RI. His wife and the rest of the children arrived in Boston, Massachusetts on 29 Oct 1913.
