Andrew Ahrenholz Jr., 83, of New Hartford, Iowa, died Sunday, February 14, 2016, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa.
Andrew was born June 20, 1932, in rural Butler County, Iowa, the son of Andrew Sr. and Minnie (Huisman) Ahrenholz. He attended school through the 8th grade. In January of 1977, he was united in marriage to LaRue Westendorf in Waterloo, Iowa.
He worked in both the trucking and excavating business his entire working life, the last forty years in the New Hartford area. LaRue passed away April 20, 2015, and Andrew continued to live outside of New Hartford until the time of his passing.
Andrew was known to be hard worker and could fix anything that was broken. He thoroughly enjoyed his large vegetable gardens and canning his harvest each year.
Andrew is survived by two sons; Adam (Hannah) Ahrenholz of New Hartford and Doug (Viola) Ahrenholz of New Hartford, one daughter; Deb Ahrenholz of Waterloo, one brother; Marvin Ahrenholz of Alison, one sister; Mary Pecenka of Waterloo, five step sons; Tim (Dorthy) Woods of New Hartford, Terry Woods of Waterloo, Ted (Cindy) Woods of Dunkerton, Tom (Terri) Woods of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Tony (Janet) Woods of Waterloo, one step-daughter; Tammy Woods of New Hartford; 12 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife LaRue, brother; Bill Ahrenholz, sister-in-law; Phyllis Ahrenholz and a brother-in-law; Bob Pecenka.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 17, 2016, at the New Hartford United Methodist Church in New Hartford. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo. Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until service time.
