Sister Mary Ellen Patrice Copps, BVM, 76, of Marian Hall Infirmary at Mount Carmel, died at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at Marian Hall Infirmary.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Marian Hall chapel, with burial in Mount Carmel Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Marian Hall Infirmary, where there will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. The Dennis Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Road, is in charge of arrangements.

Sister Mary Ellen was an elementary teacher in Chicago, Fort Dodge, Iowa, Lead, S.D., and Casper, Wyo.; and was a liturgist/musician in Phoenix and at Mount Carmel in Dubuque.

She was born on Jan. 4, 1924, in South Burke, S.D., daughter of Patrick and Ella (Dion) Copps.

She made her first profession of religious vows on March 19, 1944, and her final profession on Aug. 15, 1949.

Surviving are a brother, Robert "Bud" Copps, of Ogden, Utah; a sister, Patricia Copps, Walnut Creek, Calif.; her nieces and cousins; and the Sisters of Charity, BVM, with whom she shared life for 58 years.

Memorials may be given to the Sisters of Charity, BVM, Retirement Fund.
