Georgan was the second of three daughters born to George Arthur Jr. and Lona Porter Hurst. She was born in a #3 galvanized tub, delivered by a midwife.

The family adopted a son, Ray Burtenshaw, whose older brother Horace came to woo Georgan. They were married in 1938, in the Manti Temple.

Together, Georgan and Horace had six children.

Georgan, known as "Granny B." to many, loved to tell stories, recite poems and limericks, as well as sing songs and make puns. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting, and playing piano, harmonica, teaching line-dancing, calling square dances, and driving her Jeep all around Utah. She had a song for every occasion.

She was an active member of her church, holding many positions.

At the time of her passing, she was survived by two daughters, one sister, 35 grandchildren, 80 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren, with one on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and children Deanne Stevens, Terri Gordon, Stephen Hurst Burtenshaw, and Arthur Ralph Burtenshaw (since passed).
