Royal Harrison Bradley, age 86, passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord May 24, 2016, reunited at long-last with Jeanne, his wife and soulmate, of 66 years, who passed away in 2015. Roy was born Sept. 3, 1929, in Russell, N.Y., to Ella (nee Hale) and Harry Bradley. At just 19, he married Jeanne Robertson, and together they had four children. Roy was never afraid of hard work, or a challenge and in 1968, after years of working in the manufacturing of everything from paper to lightbulbs to sauerkraut, all while going to community college at night, he and Jeanne began studying nursing at Corning Community College. After graduating as an registered nurse in 1970, they moved to Tucson, Ariz., where he went on to receive a bachelor of science in nursing from Northern Arizona University in 1984, and then in 1986, a degree as an adult/geriatric nurse practitioner, from the University of Arizona, becoming one of the first male nurse practitioners in the country. Roy spent most of his nursing career at Tucson General Hospital as a nursing supervisor and then at the Department of Veterans Affairs as a nurse practitioner in psychiatry services, specializing in drug treatment and counseling. After his retirement from the VA, he and Jeanne moved to Pahrump to help staff the Pahrump Family and Emergency Medical Clinic, before finally retiring for good and moving to Las Vegas. Roy was a unique combination of a grumpy curmudgeon and warm, loving husband and father, known for his adoration of his wife, his mother his kids, and his impatience for anything he considered a waste of time. His family thought he was the human incarnation of Carl, from the movie "UP." A dapper dresser, and a fan of all things diamond, Roy had a diamond ear stud long before it was fashionable. He and Jeanne loved cruising and some of his favorite memories were of dressing up in formal wear for dinner with the captain on the 17 cruises they took together. An amateur carpenter, one of his favorite activities was doing building projects with his daughter, Cindi. His favorite food was pie, but his face would equally light up at the mention of donuts, ice cream, or hot chocolate pudding. His Christian faith was a fundamental part of him and it especially sustained him following Jeanne's passing. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Eileen; and brother, Ronald. He is survived by his children, Vicki Robinson (Steve) of Las Vegas, Elaine Carlton (Richard) of Tucson, Mark Bradley (Kathy) of Buda, Texas, and Cindi Shanas (Ron) of Las Vegas; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. A private graveside service is pending for in September, in Tucson. Burial following beside his beloved Jeanne.
