Mrs. Betty Jean King, age 88, of Dalton, Georgia, departed this life, Sunday morning, February 14, 2016 at the Willson Hospice in Albany, Georgia. Betty Jean was born May 20, 1927 in Murray County, Georgia, a daughter of the late George and Etta Elrod Sisson, Sr. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Grady King, sisters, Hazel Sisson, Eula Shoemaker and Emma Gossett, and brothers, Elmer Sisson, Arthur Sisson and George Sisson, Jr. and a son-in-law, William H. Tawney. Betty Jean spent most of her working life at Law-Tex Carpet. She was a member of Harmony Baptist Church. Betty Jean loved life. She was a hard worker and treasured her family dearly.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Starleen Tawney of Albany, GA, Darleen and Larry Russell, Arleen and Ray Poteet; brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Mary Overby; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Arnold and Jewell King all of Dalton, GA; a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Betty Jean King will be held Wednesday morning, February 17, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Ponders Melrose Chapel with Larry Russell officiating. She will be laid to rest at Ponders Whitfield Memorial Gardens with Justin Foster, Chris Foster, Patrick Foster, Jerry Shoemaker, Roy Gossett and Larry Poteet serving as pallbearers.
