Lucy Adeline Viola Lee was born to George Washington Lee and Adeline Myrtle Johnson Lee according to the family bible on 29 May 1875 in Bulloch County, Georgia (Candler County was not created until 1896). This date is listed by Lucy in her own handwriting in her personal Turner Family Bible. It is considered the correct birthdate.
Her death certificate states her birthdate is 6 May 1876. That information was provided by her son Claude Turner and was incorrect.

Lucy had eight siblings: Jane Ann (Katie), Henry Clay, Robert Edward (named after General Robert E Lee), Julia Ann, Mary, Roxie, Carrie, and Homer.

Lucy met and married Raymond James Turner also from Bulloch County on 12 May 1895. The marriage was performed by George R Trapnell. Their first child was born nine months later. A son they named Claude Lee Turner. Their second child, a daughter Jincy was born the following year in 1897. In 1899 daughter Edna Thelma Turner was born, and in 1902 their last child was born, a third daughter Lucy Alma Turner.

Lucy was called 'Little Mama' by her grandchildren. She was only 4'10" tall. She and Raymond were farmers, but after his untimely death at only 39 years of age in 1911, she had to find other ways to support herself and their 4 children. She married Matthie J Hendrix around 1915 and began a boarding house. This supported her and her children until they were married and out on their own. Many of her boarders worked for the railroad and helped her daughter Thelma and son-in-law Bycelle get jobs. Bycelle and Thelma worked for the railroad their whole adult lives. Lucy and Matthie divorced before 1930.

At age 60, on 16 Jan 1936 Lucy succumbed to cervical cancer at the hospital in Savannah. She was buried in Lake Cemetery along with her husband Raymond and daughter Jincy.
She is my paternal great grandmother.
