Alfred married Susan Wilson in Vermont sometime before 1824, by which time they were living in New York where their oldest child, Fayetta, was born. Alfred was one of the first to arrive in Kaneville Township (only the Miner & Isbell families were then living here), purchasing land claimed by John B Moore who had also just recently arrived in the Fall of 1837. The entire Churchill family had moved west by 1839. The 1840 Kane County census shows the couple with six daughters (all fit the age categories) & one son aged 10-15 (name unknown). In 1850 they were listed on the Batavia census (unclear) but by 1855 are back on the Kaneville census. In 1860, for reasons unknown, they were living in Smith, Dade Co., MO (with Samuel Hough who later married their daughter Eliza) but they returned to Kane County. Alfred's wife Susan died in Castleton, VT in 1867 (perhaps on a visit?) and Alfred died in Kaneville just one year later. The Churchill monument is next to Eliza Hough's monument and has three inscriptions: one for Alfred, a cenotaph for Susan, and a third which is illegible. (Alfred & Susan had at least seven children, four of whom (the unknown son, Delia, Susan & Fanny) may be buried here.
