Early on Friday morning of last week [ABT 8 APR 1898], after an illness of less than a week of pneumonia, Mrs. David W. Allen, departed this life, aged 65 years, 6 months and 22 days, at her residence a little north of the place. Mrs. Allen was a woman possessed of a fine Christian character, an indulgent wife, and mother, charitable and kind, always giving words of encouragement to cheer those with whom she came in contact with in her daily walk. The funeral services were held in the Methodist Church, of which the deceased was a member, on Sunday morning at 9 o'clock, conducted by her pastor, Rev. J. B. Brenneman, which were largely attended by a large concourse of sympathizing friends and relatives. Interment was made in the Academia cemetery. A husband and nine children are left to mourn her departure to a brighter and better world on high to whom we extend our unstinted sympathy. May the God of peace and comfort be around and about them.
