Funeral services for Joseph "Joe" Virgil Downen, 53, of Pottersville were held on Saturday, Aug. 5, 2006, in the Rose Chapel at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
Mr. Downen died at 10 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2006, at his home.
He was born Jan. 14, 1953, in West Plains, Mo., to Raymond Augustus and Vada Irene Manley Downen. He received his education in the schools of West Plains and on July 4, 1986, was married at Hammond Mill near West Plains to Eunice Powell. Mr. Downen was employed by Richards Brothers Feed Mill and was a member of the Crider Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Eunice Downen, of the family home; four children, Joseph Virgil Downen Jr. and his wife, Tina, of West Plains, Jennifer Irene Allen and her husband, Jared, of Branson, Mo., Vedra Sue Brashers and her husband, Larry, of Pottersville, Mo., and Patricia Evelyn Schrippe and her husband, Ben, of West Plains; four grandchildren, Desiree Renae Downen, Joseph Virgil Downen III, Avery Shawn Allen and Emily Allen; his mother, Vada Downen of Moody, Mo.; two brothers, Raymond E. Downen and his wife, Lois, of West Plains and Charles Dennis Downen of Moody, Mo.; two sisters, Carolyn Surritte and her husband, Donald, of West Plains and Patricia Brower of Moody, Mo.; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ezra and Evelyn Powell of Pottersville, Mo.; two brothers-in-law, Eddie Powell and his wife, Rhonda, and Elvin Powell and his wife, Gloria, both of Pottersville, Mo.; three sisters-in-law, Ellen Rodriguez of Wagner, Okla., Earlene Chenault and her husband, Ron, of Big Rock, Tenn., and Erma Hodge of West Plains; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins; and his good friend, Steve Frye of Pottersville, Mo.
His father and one sister precede him in death.
Burial was held at Ledbetter Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or Community Hospice and left at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home.
