Addis, of the same address as his nearest relative, when he registered for the draft during World War II.
On September 14, 1944, Richard Addis, aged 60, of Stony Brook, New York, died from asphyxiation from illuminating gas escaping from a broken pipe during a hurricane, when a tree fell near his home, breaking a gas main. Both he and wife were asleep at the time. Mrs. Addis was removed to Mather Memorial Hospital where she recovered.
