Albert Bernard Hulsebus had three wives and 18 children. He was born January 9, 1812 in Germany and died in the Defiance area on April 7, 1892.
Albert married Hannah Hoesenius. Their children were:
Kasper, 1836~1913, three daughters and two sons;
Bernard, 1839~1921, four daughters and three sons;
Harmon, 1842~1922, four daughters and three sons;
Peter, 1845~1929, four daughters and three sons; and
Tillie Muller (Jacob), 1849~1935, four daughters and three sons.
Hannah died 1850 in Germany.
Albert married second wife ~~ Katie Ommerman Their children were:
Tena Dierks (John), 1852~1926, three sons and three daughters;
Jacob, 1854~1940, six sons and four daughters;
Hannah Lange (Ernest), 1857~1921, three sons and two daughters; and
George Hulsebus, 1859~1919, two sons and six daughters.
Katie died 1862 in Germany.
Albert's third wife, Freche Husman, was born in Germany in 1839 and died near Defiance in 1907. Their children were:
Ella Lohse (Fred) , 1863~1929, seven daughters and three sons;
Ricka Faller (George), 1864~1941, two daughters and five sons;
Albert A., 1865~1947, four sons and two daughters;
Effie Nollen (Mike), 1867~1936, three daughters and one son;
John, 1873~1926, three sons and four daughters;
Henry, 1875~1945, seven daughters and two sons;
William, 1877~1919, four sons and two daughters;
Anna Nollen (Frank), 1880~1916, one son and four daughters; and
August Hulsebus, 1883~1963, one daughter and four sons.
Sons of Albert helped build the railroad through Defiance. Bernard and Peter Hulsebus bought land from the railroad for $7.02 per acre.
In 1884 Kasper, Bernard, Peter and Jacob Hulsebus families came to the Defiance area, and these four men assisted in organizing the first Protestant Church in Defiance.
