Daughter of Ethan Allen Hitchcock, who was minister to Russia and Secretary of the Interior under McKinley and Theodore Roosevelt. She was the first lady of #53 Portland Place, which she and her husband, John Foster Shepley, built in 1912. There they raised their son, Ethan Allen Hitchcock Shepley.

Later Mrs. Shepley moved to 4943 Pershing in St. Louis.

Not linked are two daughters: Margaret Shepley Allen; Sallie Shepley Lilly; and a son, Lewis B. Shepley.
