Joe was born on July 26, 1954 in Raton, NM to Teofilo "Toby" Salas and Orlanda Sánchez.
Joe will be remembered as a true gentleman who loved fishing, and sports, especially baseball and was a life-long, avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. His number one hobby was to umpire baseball games. Joe was an active member of the community, always there to lend a helping hand.
A plumber by trade, he was employed by Albuquerque Public Schools as the Plumbing Department Supervisor. Most importantly, Joe was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend and colleague.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Juanita Salas.
Joe is survived by his wife of 39 years, Billie Salas of Albuquerque, NM, children, Melissa García and her husband, Reynel, stationed in Germany, Joseph Salas and his wife, Jenine, of Los Lunas, NM, grandchildren, Analise and Tessa García and Raevenne, Aidyn and Zooey Salas, siblings, Connie, Jim, Cathy, Elaine, Debbie, Louise, Jeanette, Jerry, Ted and John.
Viewing and Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. with the Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 8, 2016 at Strong-Thorne Chapel, 1100 Coal Ave. SE, Albuquerque. The Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February, 9, 2016 at Church of the Ascension, 2150 Raymac Rd. SW, Albuquerque. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Albert Sandoval, Wade Hopkins, Chuck Peterson, Frank Maés, Sal War and Gilbert Márquez. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gary Sintas, Adrian Mondragón, Ed Gonzáles, Rodney Roybal, Pete Cortés and Marty Martínez.
