Conna K. Abernathy, 71, of Cape Girardeau died Sept. 7, 2006, at Southeast Missouri Hospital. She was born April 4, 1935, in Gipsy, MO, daughter of Milton and Mayme Rea Kerr.
She and Delbert Abernathy were married June 23, 1957, in Gipsy.
Mrs. Abernathy was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women.
She was a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University.
She taught school at Scott City, Bloomfield and Cape Girardeau schools.
She was a 50-year member of Zalma Eastern Star Council, member of Cape County Extension Council, and River Heritage Quilters Guild.
Survivors include her husband, Delbert D. Abernathy of Cape Girardeau, MO; one son and daughter-in-law, Jim and B.J. Abernathy of Cape Girardeau, MO; one daughter, Janet Ratliff of Union, MO; two brothers, Gerald Kerr of Union, MO; Wendell Kerr of Cape Girardeau; and one grandchild of Union, MO.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Gale Kerr.
An Order of Eastern Star service is today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home. Graveside service is Saturday at Berrong Cemetery near Gipsy, with the Rev. Jerry Statler officiating.
