George H. Aikens, Jr. of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania died Friday, April 5, 2013 at Lafayette Redeemer. He was 87 years old. George was born February 6, 1926 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, son of the late George H. Aikens and the late Eleanor Mabel Aikens (nee - Wood). He is the beloved husband of 48 years of the late Jean L. Aikens; father of Shirley Callahan and her husband Tom and Carla Cotton and her husband James; Grandfather of James Cotton and his wife Megan, John Cotton, Theresa Gellura and her husband Adam, William Callahan, Thomas Callahan, Patrick Callahan and Christopher Callahan; great grandfather of Nicholas Gellura, Lucas Gellura, Caroline Gellura, Cole Gellura, and Caleb Cotton.

Born, raised and educated in Philadelphia, he was a 1944 graduate of North East High School. After his schooling, George enlisted in the United States Navy and served honorably during World War II until his discharge in June of 1946 with the rank of Gunners Mate 3rd class. He met his future wife at a dance in Philadelphia, the two were married April 10, 1954 and were happily married until her passing on June 29, 2002. George was a tool and die maker, he started his career with Philco in Philadelphia. He loved the Philadelphia Phillies and woodworking. After retirement George would make furniture for his family.

Relatives and friends were invited to his viewing on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 from 9:00 A.M. and funeral service at 10:00 A.M. at Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 419 Huntingdon Pike, Rockledge, PA 19046. Military honors rendered by the United States Navy and graveside service followed at Sunset Memorial Park, 333 West County Line Road, Feasterville, PA 19053.

Religious services were conducted by Rev. Jeff Ziegler from Gloria Dei Church, 570 Welsh Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006
