Marvin Richard "Butch" Banzet, 89, of Erie, went to be with the Lord at 12:35 p.m., Sunday, January 31, 2016 at the Prairie Mission Retirement Village of St. Paul where he has resided since May 2008.

He was born on September 6, 1926 near Culbertson, Nebraska to Ernest and Pearl (Dewey) Banzet. He was one of 12 brothers and sisters. During his youth he & his family resided in Atwood, Ks & later moved to Bartlett. He attended high school at Labette County Community High School in Altamont. He worked at Fall River and Coffeyville and also helped farm.

At the age of 18 yrs he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served from 1942 to 1946. During World War II he was stationed in Saipan and Okinawa. He joined the United States Air Force in 1948 and was stationed at USAF bases throughout the United States. Early in his Air Force career he was stationed overseas in Germany, England and Saudi Arabia, with visits to Bahrain, Israel, Libya, Scotland, and Tunisia. In 1965 he was sent to Japan for three years where he moved with his family. He was assigned temporary duty in Thailand, and also visited Taiwan and Vietnam.

After he retired the family moved to Erie, Kansas in 1969. He attended Water & Wastewater Technical School in Neosho, Mo in 1975 & 1976. He held various jobs after his retirement including working for Gibson's & the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant where he retired after 10 years.

His hobbies included fishing, hunting, country music & barbecuing. After his retirement he & his wife made several trips to Washington to visit family & deep sea salmon fish. Another one of his favorite pastimes was visiting with his brothers & sisters and there was always abundant laughter particularly due to his sense of humor. He loved his grandchildren & enjoyed spending time with them.

He married Ruth Elmore Banzet on Dec 26, 1956 at the Erie Federated Church. They recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary. She survives of the home.

Butch is also survived by his son, Royce Banzet of Erie; two daughters, Janna Belusko, and her husband, Tom of Norman, OK and Karen Stipp, and her husband, Gary of Erie; seven grandchildren, Adam Belusko, Hannah Belusko, and Abigail Belusko all of Norman, OK; Jason Stipp of Erie; Anthony Stipp, and his wife, Sunni of Frontenac; Nathan Stipp of Pittsburg; and Nicholas Stipp of Oronogo, MO; two great-grandchildren, Nolan and Walker Stipp both of Frontenac; and his sister, Geraldine Casey of Las Vegas, NV.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Sarah Belusko; and his siblings, Geneva Kastens, Raymond Banzet, Denzil Banzet, Dallas Banzet, Vernal "Bub" Banzet, Erma Roeser, Jackie Banzet, Melvin Banzet, Ernest Banzet, Jr. and Albert Banzet.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 4, 2016 at the Federated Church in Erie with Pastor Mark Demas officiating. Burial will follow in the East Hill Cemetery with military honors conducted by the George L. Hendricks Post No. 102 American Legion in Erie. Friends may call the Pierce-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Erie at their convenience.
