Melissa was the youngest daughter of Hundley Moody and Elizabeth Gordon Moody. She married Reuben Minor in about 1849. Over the next nineteen years, they had 9 children: John Lewis, Charles Hundley, Benjamin William, Edward, Alice, Ella Jane, Philip Henry, Joseph, and Robert. After the death of her husband in 1878, Melissa had money issues. She moved to Baltimore, Maryland to live with her sons in 1881.
