Ephriam Doolittle, of which a company was raised in Richmond, New Hampshire by Capt. Oliver Capron. John Ellis joined Capron's company on May 5, 1775 as a private. The regiment was commissioned on June 12, 1775, mustering seven companies. In response to the call on for troops for relief for Ticondaroga in 1777, John Ellis is listed as a corporal in Capt. Capron's company and, afterward, becomes a sergeant.
According to Abstract of Graves of Revolutionary Patriots, he is buried on the family farm in Richmond, New Hampshire.
