David A. Hollingsworth, age 81, of Laurie, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2016, at the V.A. Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. David was born on May 21, 1934, the son of Artie Albert and Amelia Otelia (Smith) Hollingsworth. He grew up in the Kansas City area where he graduated from the Rosedale High School in 1952. In 1953, he married his high school sweetheart, Carol Hughes. They remained in the Kansas City area and made it their home for many years. David worked for his dad driving a dump truck through his school years. After high school, He went to work for J.E. Dunn Construction Company in Kansas City, Missouri from 1952-1953. He then joined the United States Marine Corps in 1953. David served in the Korean War Conflict in 1954 and 1955. He had attained the rank of Sergeant over his time of service. David was released from the Marine Corps in 1956 with an Honorable Discharge. Following his service, he went to work for TOX Trucking and would later go to work for Consolidated Freightways as an over the road truck driver. He received several awards for millions of miles of safe driving. He was a longtime member of the Teamsters Local 41. David loved the Lake of the Ozarks area where he spent many years with his family during his time off work. After his retirement, he moved to the lake full time. He continued service to our military in the Zack Wheat American Legion Post 624 in Sunrise Beach where he was also a member of the Color Guard. He attended many funerals and parades honoring all that served in all branches of the military! He loved the Legion Post! He often talked about it as his family. He also took pride in maintaining the Legion vans used for travel to events. David was also a member of the Marine Corps League of the Lake of the Ozarks #1137, Masonic Lodge in Merriam, Kansas, Rosedale Lodge #333, and the Ararat Shriners in Kansas City, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, by Carol Hollingsworth, and by his sister, Norma Jean. David is survived by his four children, Rick Hollingsworth (Patti) of DeSoto, Kansas, Ronald Hollingsworth (Katie) of Shawnee, Kansas, Rhonda J. Hollingsworth of Platte City, Missouri and Dave Hollingsworth (Liz) of Warsaw, Missouri; his seven grandchildren, Tricia Quisenberry (Aaron), Traci Simpson (Dave), Dusty Hollingsworth (Teddi), Denny Hollingsworth (Nichole), Jim Hollingsworth (Sarah), Megan Phillips and Hope Muldoon (Joey), along with eighteen great-grandchildren. A celebration of David's life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the Kidwell-Garber Laurie/Sunrise Beach Chapel. Entombment will follow in the columbarium in Garber Memorial Estates. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. prior to service time.

His father later married Lucille Preston Kinion 05/05/1951 Eureka Springs Arkansas. She passed away in 1963. He then married Addie Louise Neill 08/15/1964 Caldwell MO and is laid to rest with her.
