Lindstrom, Gladys B. (Johnson) age 84, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Friday, Dec. 12, 2014. Gladys was born in Mpls and grew up in the Milaca area. She graduated from Milaca High School in 1948. That year she was voted Homecoming Queen and Fire Princess in the St. Paul Winter Carnival. She married her high school sweetheart the captain of the football team, Allyn A. Lindstrom on 9/11/48. After starting a family in Mpls., Gladys with her husband Allyn bought a farm in Bloomington by Bush Lake in the mid 60's. She co-founded MN Valley Landscape serving as secretary, treasurer and later president. Her daily responsibilities included accounting, accounts payable and receivable, as well as payroll. MN Valley Landscape expanded into companies that included MN Valley Nursery, MN Valley Garden Center and Wandell's Nursery in Illinois. The legacy of the MN Valley Companies through commercial, nursery and residential landscape include the former Metrodrome, Canterbury Park, Mpls Federal Reserve Bank and Centennial Lakes Park. Gladys continued to be involved in the daily operation of the business and drove to work most days. Gladys had many passions and relished her Swedish heritage which she shared with her children and grandchildren. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed football, as well as baseball and golf. Gladys was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Allyn, whom she cared for at their home for several years prior to his death due to complications of Alzheimer's. She was also preceded by her parents, Gustaf and Lydia Johnson; brothers, Roy, Bernard and Carl; sister, Ruth (Max) Fisk; and infant sister, Gladys. She is survived by her children, Cheryl (John) Zilka, Susan (Bob VanCleve) Lindstrom and David (Sherraye) Lindstrom; sisters, Maria (Kenneth) Winters and Lyn (Roger) Barnes; grandchildren, Nick (Linsey) Zilka, Nathan (Sandra) Zilka, and Lisa Zilka; great-grandchildren, Lincoln and Kendall Zilka, Mateo and Micah Chavez. She will be missed by her many nieces, nephews and in-laws.
