Dorothy was born Dec. 31, 1904 in Medford, Minnesota to Charles Gardner and Clara (Chapin) Stewart.
She met Armond J. Harris, who had been lodging in nearby Owatonna, Steele County, Minnesota in 1930, working as a bookkeeper for a garage. At that time Armond was 19.
They married, and moved to Nebraska. They were blessed with two daughters.
In 1957, the family were living at 2513 Wyoming, Omaha, Nebraska, where Armond was a Personnel Administrator for Northern Natural Gas.
