John served in the Civil War for the Confederate Army with the 10th Regiment Texas Cavalry (Locke’s). Per correspondence with Carl V. Wright (Mings/Doty/Shepperd researcher) 15 years ago, John was on his way home from the war and became very sick, he stopped at a farm house near Atlanta, died and is buried there.
