GHENT - Donald Ralph Basham, 72, of Ghent, Raleigh County, died Aug. 11, 1997, at home.
He was a graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School, Charleston, received his degree in engineering from the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, and was a member of First Christian Church, Charleston, and Delta Theta and Theta Tau fraternities. He was a retired engineer, former chief engineer for Vecellio and Grogan Inc., retired vice president of West Virginia Tractor and Equipment Co., served on the board of directors of the University of Virginia Engineering Foundation and the Thornton Honorary Society of the University of Virginia, was past president of the University of Virginia Alumni Association, West Virginia Chapter, and was a member and former president of the Flat Top Lake Association.
Surviving: wife, Betty Sue Bennett Basham; sons, Donald R. Basham Jr. of Austin, Texas, Douglas B. Clendenin of Bluefield; daughters, Christine B. Grady of Charleston, Jo Ann Hammonds of Hurricane; brothers, E.B., Harry W. and Calvin, all of Charleston; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Mercer Funeral Home, Bluefield, with the Rev. W.D. Hasty Jr. officiating.
