Mary Lou (Allmon) Aven, 88, former longtime Hereford resident, went home to her Lord and husband, Friday, January 29, 2016 in Seguin, Texas.

A Celebration of Life Service is scheduled for 10:00 am, Wednesday, February 3, 2016, at Central Church of Christ, 148 Sunset Drive. Mr. John Henley will officiate. Burial will follow in Rest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Hereford Heritage Funeral Home, 411 E 6th Street.

The family will receive visitors at the funeral home, Tuesday, February 2, 2016 from 6 – 7 pm.

Mary Lou was born June 21, 1927 in Fowler, Kansas, to Dorcy and Maude (Chapin) Allmon. She graduated from Friona High School in 1945 and moved to Hereford in 1949 from Friona. Mary Lou fell in love and married her best friend, Hilrey Leon Aven on June 26, 1949 in Hereford. She was a member of the Central Church of Christ in Hereford. She loved her Lord and family. Her passion in life was being a homemaker. Caring for her husband and children. Later in life she enjoyed spoiling her grand and great grandchildren. Mary Lou liked art painting, sewing, cooking, tending to her flowers, gardening, traveling in the 5th wheel during her retirement, watching “Wheel of Fortune”, “Gun Smoke”, San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Cowboys. She knew the teams so well that she could name every player on both the Spurs and the Cowboys. Most importantly in her life, she was a GREAT wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Mary Lou will be dearly missed by her family and a host of many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dorcy and Maude; husband, Hilrey Leon Aven on September 1, 2012; 1 sister, Zelma Noel; 2 brothers, Charles and Clifford Allmon; and, 1 grandson, John Dorcy Aven.

Survivors left to cherish her memories are 1 daughter, Joycelyn Welch of Tulia; 3 sons, Richard Aven and wife Johnnie of Denton, Lewis Aven and wife Kathy of Austin, Mike Aven and wife Jamie of Seguin; 1 sister, Phyllis Deaton and husband Pat of Houston; 8 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and a host of many friends.
