Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday, January 29 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM and on Saturday, January 30 from 10:00 AM until time of service.
Mr. Atkins was born on July 21, 1928 in Dover, Tennessee to the late Everett Atkins and Wilton Bryant Atkins. He was a derrick boat operator for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and attended Cheap Hill Church of Christ. Mr. Atkins was a veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict as a member of the United States Army. He was a 50 Year Member of Charity Lodge #370 of Cumberland City, Tennessee Free and Accepted Masons.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Atkins is preceded in everlasting life by his brother Earl Atkins and his son-in-law Wayne Shearon, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Patsy Cushman Atkins; sons, Cushman (Beresha) Atkins, John Atkins, Hugh (Laura) Atkins, and George (Kim) Atkins; daughter, Patrice (Craig) Empson; brothers, Bill Atkins, Arvel (Barbara) Atkins; sisters, Anita (Vinson) Cobb, Doris Cathey; grandchildren, Scott Atkins, Trey Shearon, Bryant Shearon, Jonas Atkins, Alyssa Franks, Thomas Atkins, Sean Atkins, Patrick Atkins, and Jackson Atkins; and great-grandchildren MicKayla Atkins, Johnathen Atkins, Matisen Atkins, Jordan Atkins, Jolie Shearon, Easton Shearon, Audrey Atkins, Ford Shearon, and Fiona Shearon.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be John B. Cushman, Tom Cushman, Vinson Cobb, Bill Cobb, Phillip Hunter, David Jarrell, Larry Jarrell, Phillip Jarrell, T.W. Meadows, John Nicks, David Poole, the retired employees of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the employees of the Kentucky-Tennessee Livestock Market.
