On March 22, 1827, in Brown county, Ohio, Sarah Smith Lawwell married James Lucas, born circa 1796, in Hamilton, Nortwest Territory, (modern day Ohio) a son of Robinson Lucas and Drucilla Mary (Prickett) Lucas, and widower of Ann "Nancy" Harris.
Sarah and James became the parents of at least six children before James died January 15, 1860, in Jim Henry Township, Miller, Missouri. Sarah moved to Greenwood County, Kansas to be with her daughter, Melissa (Lucas) Wormington. Sarah died in Greenwood County on April 2, 1883 and is buried in the Toronto Cemetery, in Woodson county, Kansas. Contributor: Jan Gorman (47670721)
