Hampton, Iowa, Dec 10
William A. Brooks, pioneer of Hampton and Franklin Counties, Iowa, a man aged 88 years, was struck and almost instantly killed by a passenger train on the M & St L Road this noon in the south part of city. Mr. Brooks was deaf and failed to hear the approach of the train or the frantic signal of the engineer who endeavored to check his engine in vain. The body was badly cut up. The right foot was severed as was the left leg. A concussion of the brain rendered him unconscious the moment he was struck.
