John Dennis Ahearn passed away after a valiant battle with cancer Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24, 2011, at his home in San Luis Obispo. Dennis was a third generation San Luis Obispo native, born in San Luis Obispo at Mt. View Hospital to Jerry and Mary Ahearn. He was a self-employed real estate broker, who graduated from Cal Poly with a degree in Business Administration. He loved to volunteer and supported many organizations. When his children were growing up he was president of the PTA for Teach School, supported the boosters of the Laguna Lancers and was president of the Black and Gold Boosters at San Luis High School. Dennis was an avid supporter of the Boy Scouts having served on many committees, traveled to the national Jamboree as a volunteer, received the Silver Beaver award and spent many hours with the Camp French committees. Dennis was a member of Kiwanis de Tolosa having served as president and loved to help with the barbecues. He was honored as the Kiwanian of the Year twice. He was also on the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. High School Memorial Scholarship board of directors. Dennis was very proud of his four children and worked tirelessly to prepare them for college and adulthood. Dennis is survived by his wife, Sandy; daughters Tracy, Cathy and Megan; son, J.D.; sons-in-law Ames and Mark; a sister, Ann Madruga of San Jose and her family, Joe, Betsy and Ray; daughter-in-law, Michelle; son-in-law, Jim; and nieces and nephews Caitlin and Jillian Weber and Brenna and McCray Madruga. A service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011, at the Old Mission Church in San Luis Obispo. Contributions in Dennis' memory may be made to Hospice Partners of the Central Coast, Boy Scouts of America, the Rev.
