Funeral rites for I.T. Armstrong, 87, Confederate veteran and well known farm resident of Taylor county for 34 years, were held from the home of his daughter, Mrs. Tom Newman, three miles east of Abilene, at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon. Dr E B Surface, pastor of the Central Presbyterian church, officiated. Mr. Armstrong died at 8:30 Sunday morning at the home of his daughter, where he had been making his home since the death of Mrs. Armstrong, five years ago at the age of 82. He had been ill for three weeks but his condition did not become critical until late last week. Surviving are six children: W.T. Armstrong, Cumberland, Okla.; Mrs. Ola Baker, Berkeley, Calif.; Earnest Armstrong, Lorenzo; Harry Armstrong, Tahoka; Mrs. W.A. Young, Clyde and Mrs. Newman. The later four were at his bedside when death came. Mrs. Baker and the Oklahoma son were here for the funeral. Seventeen grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive. Mr. Armstrong was born in Richmond, Mississippi, August 2, 1847, and at the age of 16 years enlisted in the Confederate army under General Albert Sidney Johnston in Company G, Twelfth Mississippi Cavalry. He was married to Catherine Threlkeld, December 16, 1868. Pallbearers were D E Varnell, Clyde Gann, Coke Davis, Roy Hay, Will Young, Ray Young.
