Joseph Berens Waters, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home in January 18, 2016.

He was born on January 19, 1926 in New York, New York to Joseph Berens Waters, Sr. and Betty Andrew Waters.

He was a graduate of Wooster School in Danbury, Connecticut.
He was a World War II veteran, serving in the United States Navy. Joe was a stockbroker. He retired from J. C. Bradford.
He was an active member of Sertoma Club of Chattanooga serving as officer of the club. He was presented the Service to Mankind Award and was named Sertoman of the Year. He was presented lifetime membership of Sertoma International and the honor of receiving the President's Award.

Joe was an active supporter of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga serving on the Board. He was a avid sports fan. He showed a genuine interest in the athletic Programs at the university, however he and his wife, Barbara were huge supporters of the girls athletic program. He gave support financially and with his presence at sports activities.

Joe was the recipient of numerous awards in recognition of his contributions to the University of Tennessee and Chattanooga. He and his wife, Barbara were co-recipients of the Southern Conference Distinguished Services Award.
Joe was a communicant of Saint Paul's Episcopal Church. The Key-Andrews Building at the church was given to the glory of God by his adoptive mother Katherine (Kaki) Andrew Hutcheson. Hand bells at the church were given by Joe in memory of his mother, Betty Andrews Waters.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Berens and Betty Andrews Waters, adoptive mother Katherine (Kaki) Hutcheson and a sister Beirne Richmond.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Sivley Waters; adoptive sister, Rosalee McConnell; sisters-in-law, Carolyn S. Minnich, Harrison, Betty D. Holt, Maryland, Kathryn S. Coffelt, Hixson, and Virginia Turner, Chattanooga; brother-in-law David M. Minnich, Harrison.

Memorial services will be held 2:00 pm Monday, January 25, 2016 at North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Honorable Reverend Sam Payne officiating along with the hand bells of Saint Paul. The family will receive friends at the funeral home form 12-2 Monday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Athletic Program, the American Heart Association , or St. Paul's Episcopal Church.

There will be a private burial iat Forest Hills Cemetery.
