Reuben GOLDING was born in Orange County, Virginia, circa 1742, the seventh child and fourth son of William GOLDING, and of his wife, Elizabeth FOSTER. He migrated with his parents to the Ninety-Six areas of South Carolina in spring 1771.

Reuben GOLDING enlisted on June 26, 1775 for military service in the American Revolutionary War, and served for three years as a Sergeant in the Third Regiment of the South Carolina Continental Troops; he was later promotoed to Lieutenant, serving under his brother-in-law, Captain Laughlin LEONARD in an expedition against the Cherokee Indian Nation.

Reuben GOLDING, 1742-1835, applied for and was awarded a military pension in 1832 on account of his military service in the American Revolutionary War. Survior's pension application records are on file.

Reuben GOLDING, 1742-1835, inherited a tract of some 300 acres land laying on Little River in Newberry, Laurens District, South Carolina, along with three slaves by terms of his father's will from the estate of his father, William GOLDING.
