Bobby Dee “Bob” Harris, age 81, of Marion, passed away Saturday, January 11, 2014, at Rose Hill Retirement Center. Mr. Harris was born in Yancey County on April 29, 1932, and was the son of the late Robert and Ella Harris. Bob will be remembered as a kind and loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and always the gentleman. He was a veteran of the US Navy having served during the Korean War. Bob was former owner and operator of Harris Motor Company and First Realty.
Surviving Bob is the mother of their children Vivian M. Harris, of Marion; Four children: Dr. Bob Harris of Asheville, Ken Harris and Shiela of Marion, Susan Nations and James of Marion and Dr. Nancy Harris and Marilu of Phoenix, AZ; nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren and special loving friends, Thelma Trent and her daughters Kathy and Cindy.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at 7:00 p.m. in Westmoreland Chapel with Dr. Vince Hefner officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the funeral home. An interment will be held Thursday at 1:00 p.m. in Carroway Cemetery in Yancey County.
