Denny J. Denton, 81, of Poulsbo died after suffering a stroke April 3, 2000, at Martha & Mary Health Center in Poulsbo.

He was born Oct. 5, 1918, in Bluffs, Ill., to Halpin and Willie Mae (Beagle) Denton. He was raised and educated in Dubuque, Ill., graduating from Dubuque High School in 1937, and attending Dubuque University.

On Feb. 25, 1944, he married Bernice Criss in Seattle.

Mr. Denton served in the Coast Guard from 1939 to 1951. He was a chief radioman during the Korean War and World War II. He later worked for Packard Bell, RCA, ITT Mackay Marine and, most recently, as a station engineer for KBRO in Bremerton, retiring in 1981.

He was a member of the Washington State Horsemen and the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Guy of Kodiak, Alaska; two daughters, Dianne Walker and Denise Zaske, both of Poulsbo; seven grandchildren, Jayna Zaske of New London, Conn., Sandra Zaske, Steven Battin and Michael Battin, all of Poulsbo and Kim, Jeff and Dana Denton, all of Kodiak, Alaska; and four great-grandchildren.

At Mr. Denton's request, there will be no services. A family gathering is planned for later this year.

Arrangements are under the direction of Miller Woodlawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
