Born in Lafayette County, Ray had lived most of his life in this area. He worked for many
years as an auto parts salesman and had operated several businesses. The Golden Shaft was a business Ray owned in Oxford where he taught archery and also had owned an archery range in Ripley, MS. Being mechanically inclined, Ray worked on cars, lawnmowers and doing small engine repair. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing. Having a loving, kind and forgiving nature, he never met a stranger. Spending time with his wife and family, who he loved very much, gave him much pleasure. Ray was a member of the First Baptist Church of Abbeville.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 19, 2016, 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at Coleman Funeral Home, 601 Commerce Parkway, Oxford, MS. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. at Coleman Funeral Home with Bro. Randy Hope and Bro. Randy Bain officiating. Interment will be in the Abbeville Cemetery, Abbeville, MS. Coleman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Taylor Leake of Abbeville, MS; a son, Jay Leake of Oxford, MS; a step-daughter, Carolyn Mardis of Abbeville, MS; a brother, Charlie Mack Leake of Metairie, LA; 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
His parents, Charlie and Q-Milla H. Leake, and a step-son, Jeff Keel, preceded Ray in death.
