John Albrecht, Jr., 78, of Palm Beach Gardens, died Sunday, Sept. 10 at Hospice of Palm Beach County at Good Samaritan Medical Center in West Palm Beach. A native of Narberth, PA, he lived for most of his life in Gladwyne, PA.

He retired from the U.S. Army in 1952 and began his career as a third generation member of a family business started in 1882. Later, he became the owner/president of Albrecht's Flowers & Greenhouses Inc., in Narberth. After selling his retail and wholesale flower and greenhouse business in 1986, he moved to Palm Beach Gardens.

He was a member of Rotary Clubs in Bala Cynwyd, PA; Ardmore, PA; and Jupiter.

After retiring to Florida, he joined the Palm Beach Sail and Power Squadron and the North Palm Beach Yacht Club. He served on the board of directors of the yacht club and assisted in its Junior Sailing program. He served on the board of the directors of the Horticulture Society of South Florida. He helped develop the Palm Beach Tropical Flower Show in 1995 and ran it for the next 12 years.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Ginnie; two daughters, Laurie Anne Albrecht of West Chester and Catherine Albrecht Klinger and her husband, Ron, of Hobe Sound.

He was preceded in death by his son, John Curtis Albrecht, on Sept. 17, 2005.

A funeral service will be Friday, Sept. 15 at 1 p.m., at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 3395 Burns Road, Palm Beach Gardens. His ashes will be spread at sea.

Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Palm Beach County.
