Obituary
J. C. (John) McGuffin, age 73 years, died at the family home on North River street, Monday morning at 7 o'clock, from a complication of aliments incident to old age. For twenty years he had been a resident of this vicinity. He had reared a family here, and was a brother of C. P. McGuffin, city commissioner from the Fourth ward.

Those who survive are: a wife and three daughters, Mrs. Ola Athen, of this city, Mrs. C. A. Miles of Baxter Springs, Kans., and Mrs. Ada Zimmerman of near Miami, also two sons, Will McGuffin of Kansas, and John McGuffin, who resides in Idaho, and who was unable to reach here for the funeral. All the other children were present.

The funeral occurred at the home Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Jerry Hubbard preaching the discourse. Burial immediately followed at the G.A.R. cemetery. Deceased an old Union soldier and a member of the local post. He drew a substantial pension for valiant services to his country during the civil war.
