Born in Middlebury Twp.
Philo married his first wife, Jane, in New York in the 1850s. They moved to Michigan in the 1860s, along with Philo's sister Julia. Philo and Jane had 2 children.
After Jane's death in 1873, Philo fathered an illegitimate daughter. Shortly thereafter, he married Polly Failing-Wright, a young widow, in 1874. This was a short-lived marriage and there are no known children of this union. He then married Mary Viola Hart around 1876. They had 2 children born in Michigan, and then some time after 1880 they began to make their way to Oklahoma. They had 4 children born in Kansas between 1884 and 1892, and then made their way to Oklahoma, where their last child was born in 1897.
