She was preceded in death by her parents, Muriel and Henry F. Anton Sr.; and her first husband, Harper Abbot; and second husband, Edward W. "Bill" Hakes. Kay was born in Pueblo, Colo., and attended Central High School. She graduated from the University of Colorado-Boulder, with a degree in education. She was affiliated with the Pi Beta Phi sorority. After graduation, she taught at Minnequa Elementary School. Kay was active in community service in Pueblo including the Broadway Theater League, the Wednesday Morning Club and the Service League. After Harper's death, she moved to Denver, where she worked in banking, later with Living the Good News developing lectionary-based Christian education curricula. With her marriage to Bill, she retired and moved to his home in California. Bill and Kay had 15 years of fun traveling and taking care of each other. Much of their travel was to traditional (Dixieland) jazz festivals and National Geographic sailing trips. Kay is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Stewart and Terrie Abbot of Greeley; brother and sister-in-law, Henry "Hank" and Suzie Anton of Pueblo; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Kay will be remembered for her strong Christian faith and activity at Ascension Episcopal Church in Pueblo, Christ Church in Denver and St. John's Episcopal Church in Roseville, Calif. Memorial service will be at 1 p.m. today, Jan. 16, at Ascension Episcopal Church, Pueblo, with reception to follow.
