Although the information I had indicated Ross was buried at Calvary Cemetery in Ottumwa, Find A Grave contributor Debbie Truitt kindly found that Ross was buried in Floris Cemetery. I have called Calvary and confirmed he is NOT there, and Davis County Cemetery records indicate he IS in Floris, as reflected in his funeral notice.
Debbie Truitt also sent me the obituary and funeral notice for Ross. They come from the Ottumwa Courier. The obituary was published on 20 Sep 1960, while the funeral notice was published 26 Sep 1960:
"Ross F. Jay, 76, of Bloomfield Route 9 died at 4:10 a.m. today at a hospital in Iowa City. He had been ill since last October.
He was an employee of John Morrell & Co. before retiring and becoming a farmer.
The son of David and Mary Parkins Jay, he was born in Floris Feb. 8, 1885. He made his home on Bloomfield Route 9 for 23 years.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Darlene White, Bloomfield Route 9; two sons, Jack Ross Jay of San Diego, Calif., and Paul Jay of Des Moines; 12 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter.
Arrangements are pending at the Jay Funeral Home."
