JUNTUNEN, Elwood Niles – age 90, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at Cranberry Park Transition of Clio. Funeral services will be held 1PM Monday, January 18, 2016 at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio. Pastor Donald Albright officiating. Burial in Flint Memorial Park. Family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-8PM and on Monday from 12PM until the time of service at 1PM. Memorial contributions may be made to one of Elwood’s favorite charities, The Food Bank of Eastern Michigan.

Elwood was born October 13, 1925 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Leonard M. and Lucille (Kemppainen) Juntunen. As a young boy, he and his family moved back to Dollar Bay, Michigan where his parents were originally from. He graduated from Dollar Bay High School in 1944. He worked at the Calumet and Hecla Copper Mine as a crane operator in the Upper Peninsula before joining the United States Army and serving during the Korean War. After Elwood was honorably discharged from his military service he resided with his sister and brother-in-law in the Genesee County area. He retired from Chevrolet Manufacturing as an inspector with 34 years of service. Elwood married Ruth E. Iler of Royal Oak on November 24, 2001 after a 30 plus year courtship. He was a member of Maranatha Baptist Church in Flint. He was a resident of Flushing, but had also resided in Birch Run and Royal Oak.

Surviving are: loving and devoted wife, Ruth E. Juntunen; Sister, Shirley M. Salminen; Nephews: Dennis (Denise) Salminen and Dale (Jill) Salminen; Grand-nephew, Daniel Salminen; Grand-nieces: Lanaya Salminen, Andrea (Aaron) Crampton and Kelly Salminen; Two great-grand nephews; One great-grand niece.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Cranberry Park Transition of Clio for all the wonderful care given to Elwood. We are forever greatful for the kindness and love shown to Elwood, Ruth and Shirley. The family would also like to thank the residents of Cranberry Park for their concern and friendship to our family members. Also, thank you to the wonderful and caring hospice nurses, Kim and Lisa, from Hometown Health and Hospice, for their care of Elwood and his family during this time.
