Granville was the son of Martin W. and Susanna Waggoner Sims. He was married to Sarah Sheppard and they had 5 children. He is buried in the same cemetery as his parents. The Sims Cemetery was on the property of his father Martin.

Granville was in Company "D", 46th Virginia Cavalry, Confederate States of America. During the war while serving under Capt. Smith, Granville was captured by the enemy (July 1863) and was exchanged for a horse and bounty.

His uncle Newton Gilbert Sims was in the Union Army during the Civil War. Newton was my great-grandfather.
